چکیده
The electrochemical features of microbial fuel cells’ biocathodes, running on wastewater, were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry. Ex situ and in assays performed the redox processes associated with presence microorganisms and/or biofilms attained. Different controls using sterile media (abiotic cathode cell) membranes covering electrodes to evaluate source electrochemistry response (surface vs. biotic electrolyte). bacteria presence, particular when are allowed develop, was related enhanced active an improved catalytic activity, namely for oxygen reduction, compared results attained abiotic cell cathode. main composition also is agreement other reported studies. current study aims contributing establishment advantages biocathodes rather than abiotic, whose conditions frequently harder control contribute a better understanding bioelectrochemical occurring chambers electrode surfaces.

A hybrid microbial fuel cell membrane bioreactor with a conductive ultrafiltration membrane biocathode for wastewater treatment.
A new hybrid, air-biocathode microbial fuel cell-membrane bioreactor (MFC-MBR) system was developed to achieve simultaneous wastewater treatment and ultrafiltration to produce water for direct reclamation. The combined advantages of this system were achieved by using an electrically conductive ultrafiltration membrane as both the cathode and the membrane for wastewater filtration. The MFC-MBR u...
متن کاملPerformance of Denitrifying Microbial Fuel Cell with Biocathode over Nitrite
Microbial fuel cell (MFC) with nitrite as an electron acceptor in cathode provided a new technology for nitrogen removal and electricity production simultaneously. The influences of influent nitrite concentration and external resistance on the performance of denitrifying MFC were investigated. The optimal effectiveness were obtained with the maximum total nitrogen (TN) removal rate of 54.80 ± 0...
متن کاملElectrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy for Microbial Fuel Cell Characterization
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is an efficient, non-intrusive and semi-quantitative technique to characterize the performance of bio-electrochemical systems such as microbial fuel cells and enzymatic fuel cells. Indeed, quantitative interpretation of the impedance data can be obtained with the help of mechanistic models using meaningful equivalent circuits. The production of maximum pow...
متن کاملCarbon Material Optimized Biocathode for Improving Microbial Fuel Cell Performance
To improve the performance of microbial fuel cells (MFCs), the biocathode electrode material of double-chamber was optimized. Alongside the basic carbon fiber brush, three carbon materials namely graphite granules, activated carbon granules (ACG) and activated carbon powder, were added to the cathode-chambers to improve power generation. The result shows that the addition of carbon materials in...
متن کاملA Green Microbial Fuel Cell-Based Biosensor for In Situ Chromium (VI) Measurement in Electroplating Wastewater
The extensive use of Cr(VI) in many industries and the disposal of Cr(VI)-containing wastes have resulted in Cr(VI)-induced environmental contamination. Cr(VI) compounds are associated with increased cancer risks; hence, the detection of toxic Cr(VI) compounds is crucial. Various methods have been developed for Cr(VI) measurement, but they are often conducted offsite and cannot provide real-tim...
